The list below is a sample of what is available locally and within easy driving distance. For further details, go to the Assynt Tourist information website. Walking: everything from strenuous Munro-bagging to the gentle All Abilities Path at Leitir Easaidh. Beaches at Balchladdich, Stoer, Clashnessie and Achmelvich. Extensive views everywhere! - viewpoints at Drumbeg and Kylesku. Assynt Leisure Centre, for those wet days (or Ullapool Leisure Centre if you would like a swim). Wildlife: much to see - birdwatchers will enjoy a trip to Handa Island Geological interest - North West Highlands Geopark Cruises on The Statesman from Kylesku, including trips to Kerrachar Gardens. The Kylesku Hotel website also lists activities around Kylesku. Further north, towards Durness there are Smoo Caves, trips to Cape Wrath, and Balnakeil Craft Village. Shooting and fishing - with the Assynt Crofters Trust and the Assynt Foundation Sea Kayaking - try something new, come close to wildlife, be at one with nature as you get inside the scenery of this stunning area. |
